Grass Courts

We celebrated the reopening of our new grass courts with an open afternoon on June 05 2016.

Our courts at Lunesdale Lawn Tennis Club (LTC) in Ball Lane, Caton, were officially reopened at 2pm on June 05 by our excellent groundsman Eric Beniston, followed by tennis and drinks and snacks.

Eric said: “To be asked to officially open the new grass courts was an honour and a privilege. During my 16 years maintaining the grass courts I have met and made many friends. I thank them all for their support and Friendship. My thanks to all members for the lovely bouquet of flowers for my wife Margaret and the special bottle of my favourite tipple for myself. Good luck to you all. May you be blessed with many ACES.”

We had a great turnout at the reopening event

Club chairman John Braithwaite said: “ It’s a very friendly club and welcomes players of all standards, including complete beginners. We have a busy calendar of tennis all year round so players can play as much social tennis as they wish. This is our first major investment in a decade; the grass courts look fantastic and we want to encourage people to come down and see all the facilities on offer.”

The club has a long history and was first established in 1905. When it was first opened, annual membership was £1 (about £400 today); however membership at Lunesdale is now much more reasonable at just £67.50 for the first year.
